Structural strengthening may be required for existing concrete building structures for the increased load capacity of beams, columns, walls and slabs, and for supporting additional live or dead loads not included in the original design. It is also required to relieve stresses generated by design or construction errors or for the restoration of the original load capacity of damaged structural elements.  Repair, strengthening or reconfiguration can give a new life to existing or ageing structures that might otherwise be demolished and replaced.
